Regional Pan Arab Working Group of the International Committee of Military Medicine Courses organized in the Kingdom of Saudi Arabia in 2009

COURSE UNDER THE AEGIS OF THE INTERNATIONAL COMMITTEE OF MILITARY MEDICINE

COURSE ON THE LAW OF ARMED CONFLICTS (LOAC).

Duration: 6 days, 40 hours total. Date: 5 to 10 December 2009.

Target Group: Young medical officers and doctors, senior officers, lawyers, administrators of medical formations, persons of Armed Forces interested in LOAC and medical subjects.

 Course Location: Prince Sultan Military College of Health Sciences & Aeromedicine Center (KAAB), Dhahran, KSA.

Course Time: Lectures and case studies will start at 7:30 am.

 Aims of the Course:

     - to demonstrate the relationship between the LOAC and the specific mission of the medical services

     - to show you the opportunities and limits of the LOAC

     - to help you to recognize and analyze actual problems and challenges related to LOAC, Humanitarian Law and   medical ethics

     - to motivate you to recognize your responsibility to teach LOAC in your own country

     - to give you the opportunity to meet officers from all over the world.

Course Description: lectures in plenary case studies and exercises in classes, with debriefing in plenary.

COURSES RECOMMENDED BY THE INTERNATIONAL COMMITTEE OF MILITARY MEDICINE

1)   Aviation Medicine Introductory Training Course for Military Physicians,

Duration: 10 days, 43:10 hours total.

Date: 3 to 12 January 2009

Registration

Course Location: Prince Sultan Military College of Health Sciences & Aeromedicine Center (KAAB), Dhahran, KSA.

Course Time: Lectures will start at 7:30 am.

Introduction: The importance of aviation medicine is to ensure the practical efficiency.

Aims of the Course: To introduce medical officers to the unique problems faced by those in Aviation. 

Course Plan: 32 lectures that last from 30-60 minutes each, including Practical\Clinical\Exam sessions, Helmet\Mask Fitting, Pressure breathing.

Course Description:

A.    Squadron visit: on day 8 of the course, course members will be taken to visit one of the squadrons at the KAAB. The visit will include a brief by one of the Flight surgeons. Final details of this will be confirmed when arrangements have been made. The visit will last for about 5 hours.

B.     Hypobaric Chamber: simulated altitudes are used to teach the effects of the low-pressure environment on the gas containing cavities of the body and how hypoxia can be easily identified and corrected.

C.     SDFD: A demonstration of vestibular illusions.

D.    Transport the casualties by the different means of evacuations.

E.     Aviation accidents.

Medical Requirements: All personnel entering the Hypobaric Chamber must have a valid medical permit.

Record of attendance: Attendance records should be maintained, and all course members will be asked to sign in on arrival at the AFAMC daily.

Examination: Multiple-choice exam. 50 questions. Duration 90 mins. Certificates will be awarded at the end of the course.

2) Course of Managing the Injuries of NBC Weapons among Militaries.

Duration: 6 days, 26 hours total.

Date: 7 to 12 February 2009

            The candidate must:

1.)    Be a medical officer.

2.)    Have a level: 1st lieutenant to major.

Course Location: Prince Sultan Military College of Health Sciences, Dhahran, K.S.A.

Language of Study: English.

The great development that our forces have made requires a development in the management of the injuries of NBC weapons. Therefore, Medical Services Division has decided to hold such a course to achieve this goal.

Aims of the Course:

To train the medical officers how to diagnose and treat the injuries of NBC weapons.

Course Description:

Students will have a practical and theoretical training in the management of the injuries of NBC weapons.

3) Course on Diving and Hyperbaric Medicine for Military Physicians.

Duration: 10 days, 60 hours total.

Date: 18 to 27 April 2009

1.)    Be a Medical Officer

2.)    Have a level: 1st lieutenant to lieutenant colonel in KSA, whereas, the Arab Group will be for all militaries.

Course Location: Prince Sultan Military College of Health Sciences, Dhahran, K.S.A.

Language of Study: English.

Introduction:

The great development that our forces have made requires a development in Diving Medicine. Therefore, Medical Services Division has decided to hold such course to achieve this goal.

Aims of the course:

 To train the physician officers how to diagnose and treat the injuries of Diving Medicine.

Course Description:

Students will have a practical and theoretical training in diving medicine.
