The English Department at PSMCHS is providing high-quality education that meets the needs of our students. Our students will be able to build their English Language capabilities, skills, and knowledge so as to enhance their opportunities in order to take full advantage of life-long learning.
Aims and Objectives
a) To prepare new intake students for clinic studies (English for Specific Purposes - ESP) by developing their sub-technical vocabulary base in the key skills areas (i.e. Reading, Writing, Speaking, and Listening).
b) To stimulate original thinking and critical habits of mind.
c) To develop the ability to construct an argument, both oral and written. d) To provide an awareness of the development of English for Academic Purposes, thereby enabling students to understand how writers work in relation to their specialty.
e) To promote students' understanding of ESL and English for Special Purposes.
f) To train students to apply the skills they have learned to their specialties in an English speaking environment.
Employment Projection for Graduates
English is a contributor to the overall student education. Projections for future employment should be based upon the opinions gathered from individual clinical specialties.
Higher Educational Prospects for Graduates
The English Department plays a major role in supporting the aims of the other departments in the College for their graduate students in higher education. PSMCHS graduates will have the most up-to-date knowledge in the fields of English critical thinking, research paper writing, communication and presentation skills, academic reading, argumentative writing, as well as report writing.
PSMCHS graduates will be prepared to deal with the English demands of Higher Education at a Masters Degree level.
