The institutional purpose of the Prince Sultan Military College of Health Sciences is to provide qualified students of diverse backgrounds with an excellent medical education within an atmosphere of academic integrity and scholarship that fosters the highest standards in professional ethics and competence. The college is dedicated to develop students with a lifelong commitment to patient care centered research, public / private health and community service.

The principal function of the College is to educate and train High School Graduates (Science Stream), in order to become qualified medical technicians and serve in the different applied medical jobs of the Medical Services Divisions, and conducting military courses for (Officers, NCOs and Civilians) in several fields.

Description of Profession:

Currently, there is a labor shortage in MODA hospitals for Saudi medical secretaries and transcriptionists.  This program helps to further the national goal of Saudization.

Medical secretaries/transcriptionists are vital members of the professional healthcare team.
Medical secretaries provide office support to one or more individuals in a clinical environment and are involved in patient scheduling, appointments, confidential records, and filing.

Medical transcriptionists provide an important service to both physician and patient by transcribing dictated medical reports that document a patient’s personal information and medical care.  Each dictated report represents a part of the care and comprises a permanent part of the patient’s health record.

The MST Program will create value for healthcare organizations by offering a practical, responsive program that meets the needs of future employers while providing exceptional services to our students.


Program Objectives:

The objectives of the MST Diploma Program include the following:

* To provide an environment and curriculum specifically designed to meet the needs of the medical community for skilled medical secretaries or transcriptionists.

* To produce graduates who will be able to perform high quality transcription services and to transform spoken words into comprehensive reports with accurately communicated medical information.

* To produce graduates who will be able to perform a wide range of secretarial procedures within an administrative or medical department in a competent manner.


* To produce graduates who can communicate effectively with other medical, nursing and allied health professionals.

* To produce graduates who demonstrate professional ethics and behavior with other professional workers in the health care field.


Aims & Goals:

The aims and goals of the MST Department are to ensure that graduates possess the following competencies:

- Proficiency in English language and communication;

- In-depth knowledge of the language of medicine;

- Practical knowledge of routine office applications;

- Adeptness in the use of technology  (equipment, software); and

- Awareness of ethical, legal, and professional issues that impact the health care field.

Employment Opportunities After Graduation

Physicians rely heavily on medical secretaries and transcriptionists:

Graduates may assume the role of medical secretaries or medical transcriptionists in either the Medical Records Department of a hospital or any hospital or clinical department where medical secretarial assistance is required.
