The institutional purpose of the Prince Sultan Military College of Health Sciences is to provide qualified students of diverse backgrounds with an excellent medical education within an atmosphere of academic integrity and scholarship that fosters the highest standards in professional ethics and competence. The college is dedicated to develop students with a lifelong commitment to patient care centered research, public / private health and community service.

The principal function of the College is to educate and train High School Graduates (Science Stream), in order to become qualified medical technicians and serve in the different applied medical jobs of the Medical Services Divisions, and conducting military courses for (Officers, NCOs and Civilians) in several fields.

Establishment / Overview:

PSMCHS library was inaugurated in September 1988 under the auspices of Prince Sultan Bin Abdulaziz, Minister of Defense and Aviation.
PSMCHS library plays a main role in offering services such as books and references specialized in the medical sciences to the College students, administrative and teaching staff.  In order to achieve its purpose, PMSCHS seeks to support library through qualified staff, organize and provide information aids and the different devices that makes the College use an automation system in the libraries management and information centers so that time and effort may be saved for the learners and researchers and help them access the information in a short time if an advanced search mechanism is issued.

 

Contents:

The library includes more than 18,000 titles for books, references and audio-visual multimedia.  It has more than 50 journals in the following section:  English, Arabic and references.  It is also enriched with books, references and journals as per requirements of the College in general and the applied medical sciences in particular.

Opening Hours:

The library is open for learners and researchers for 9 hours starting 7:30 a.m. to 4:30 p.m. from Sunday through Wednesday.

To disseminate information and provide knowledge about research and staff development in the field of education and health care research.

To be the primary resource for  PSMCHS in the dissemination of information relating to research and continuing education, training and service-related activities for the students, faculty, military and civilian staff of MSD hospitals Kingdom wide.

To assist  Prince Sultan Military College of Health Sciences (PSMCHS) in achieving its mission and upgrading the educational level of students and faculty College wide.

OBJECTIVES

To promote research activities by encouraging staff and interested individuals to undertake and participate in different research projects.

To introduce students and faculty, to the principles and methods of basic educational and health research, biological and epidemiological studies and program evaluation.

To contribute to the advancement of scientific studies and knowledge through active participation in training and research projects.

 

Role of RSS & LSD


Health care systems and related industries are rapidly expanding which means that health care professionals must continually gain new knowledge, skills and perspective. The RSS&LSD has been established to advance our educational programs, and to respond to scientific development, and the educational needs of students and faculty.  The RSS&LSD is striving to create an  academic environment in which students and staff are able to acquire new knowledge and skills in their respective fields of study.

Therefore, RSS&LSD places considerable emphasis on providing  to our students and faculty with the tools to conduct research.  The department organizes a wide range of lecture series and courses, conferences, symposia, workshops, and seminars as a part of the  Educational Program.  Some of the activities are carried out in collaboration with the King Fahd Military Medical Complex hospital as well as neighboring health and other academic institutions in the Eastern Provinces.

The provision of research and scientific knowledge in  PSMCHS relies on the underlying assumption that the research needs of students and faculty will be assessed.
